Description
This project was for the restoration, upgrading, alteration and extension of a Grade II Town House for a private client whom we have worked with on a number of projects over the years. The property is located within a historical part of the town of Berwick upon Tweed.
We were instructed to provide a full architectural service from inception through to practical completion of the works consisting of obtaining statutory consents, tenders and managing the Form of Building Contract.
The overall aim of the works was to approach the restoration, upgrading and extension of the house in a sensitive manor to retain and restore the historic appearance and features while meeting the requirements of modern day living standards.
The scope of the work consisted of the alteration of the attic to create rooms which could be utilised to their full potential by introducing more light with modern conservation style roof lights and insulating the walls, coombs and attic.
Works to the first floor consisted mainly of the removal of modern later partitions to restore room dimensions.
The ground floor consisted mainly of the building of extension to the rear of the property where the client can sit to look out over the garden thus creating a stronger connection between the garden and house.
Works also included the restoration and overhauling of the original sliding sash windows, a full heating system, new kitchen, bathrooms, WC’s among other essential repairs to preserve the building both to the fabric and structure of the building.
