Description

This project was for the conceptual investigation into the possible development to create a single dwelling house on this site situated on the curtilage of the village of Ettrickbridge near Selkirk in the Scottish Borders.

On the site is an old disused water storage tank that is been buried into the landscape, and so this conceptual model looked at this idea of a sunken architecture to minimise the effect of a building on the surrounding landscape.

Within this idea we have looked at creating the living area above the ground with a light structure which would remain largely open plan and would allow one to connect and enjoy the stunning scenery of this area with the form of the structure drawing connections to farm buildings thus further integrating the structure into the landscape.

The bedrooms below ground would look out onto sheltered courtyards which would provide an area of retreat on unpleasant days. One would also enter from this level below ground then move up through the building in which the landscape would be revealed once again.
