Paul studied Architecture at The Edinburgh College of Art and The University of Edinburgh now known as ESALA (Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture) where he gained Part 1 and Part 2 exemption through achieving BArch (Hons) and DArch degrees in Architecture following which Paul then went on to complete his Part 3 exams in Scotland with APEAS (Architects Professional Examination Authority in Scotland Ltd). Paul is registered with the ARB (Architects Registration Board), and is a Chartered member of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) and the RIAS (The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland).

Paul has a keen interest in both contemporary architecture and building conservation. Over the coming years it is his aim to work towards gaining accreditation in building conservation.

Robert Hales known to most as Robin set up the practice Robert J Hales Limited in 1991 on being made redundant when the Lloyd’s Bank Architectural department was being relocated from Newcastle to Birmingham.

Robin first qualified as a Architectural Technologist having studied at Napier University and then went on to study Building Surveying also at Napier University in Edinburgh and has some 30+ years experience within the design and building industry.


Robin is a member of CIAT (Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists) and the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) the latter for whom he is an assessor for the panel of interviewer’s for prospective members looking to join the profession once they have completed their studies and done the required time of Professional Training Experience.
