Description
This project is one of a few partly grant funded Schemes under the Berwick upon Tweed Historic Area Improvement Scheme (BHAIS) for a private client. The grant is funded by English Heritage, Northumberland County Council and the National Lottery. The aim of this grant is to bring redundant buildings back into reuse.
The property is located on Bridge Street in Berwick upon Tweed, and is within a conservation area part of the town. On this project we were instructed to carry out building repairs to the fabric of the property. The repairs consisted of roof repairs to the rafters around the box dormers, rolled lead replacement of the felt to the roof of the box dormers including new lead cheeks, stone repairs replacing defective, damaged and missing stone including the stone to the porch above the main entrance, window repairs and the replacement of the defective and missing mortar joints with conservation lime mortar.
We were also instructed with rationalising the signage. For us it was important that the design of the signage responded to the architectural language of the building while meeting the needs of our client.
