This project is one of a few partly grant funded Schemes under the Berwick upon Tweed Historic Area Improvement Scheme (BHAIS) for a private client. The grant is funded by English Heritage, Northumberland County Council and the National Lottery. The aim of this grant is to bring redundant buildings back into reuse.
The property is located on Castlegate, in Berwick upon Tweed, and is within a conservation area part of the town. On this project we were instructed to carry out some repairs to the existing shopfront to replace the rotten and defective timber. As part of the works we replaced the existing shopfront window with a new thin double glazed window in a traditional style. As the unit was being used by a hair dresser we proposed the double glazed window to limit the amount of condensation forming on the window and thus limit the potential of rot within the frame.
